| Digestive System |
The Bull Shark's digestive system is made up of the intestines, pharynx, stomach, kidney, mouth, esophagus, liver, gallbladder, anus, and anal tail. The Bull Shark usually swallows its food whole or bite it into fairly large pieces. Bull Sharks have U-shaped stomachs that use acids and enzymes to dissolve most of what is eaten, just like in humans. The stomach produces an easily absorbed, mush like substance. Only this liquid "mush" enters the intestines. Indigestible things, like very large bones and non-nutritive item are vomited.
Absorption of nutrients takes place in the intestines. Although the intestines are short, they have a large surface area due to infolding of the inner surface of the intestines. Some shark intestines are arranged in folds, some are in a spiral pattern.
The bull shark is known to be a solitary hunter. Their diet mainly consists of bony fish and smaller sharks, this includes other bull sharks as well. This includes animals like birds, stingrays, tuna, dolphins and several others. Bull sharks tend to hunt in murky waters because it provides them with camouflager. They use a technique called bump-and-bite where they first headbutt their prey and then go in for the kill.
